Men of War: Condemned Heroes is a WW2 shooter developed by Russian developers GSC Game World and released in 2008. The game has been released for Microsoft Windows and OS X, and was also ported to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and iOS in 2012. It won the "Best PC Game" award in 2009 from GameSpot. Men of War: Condemned Heroes puts you into the boots of a soldier who has just been killed during an anti-partisan operation. This mission is the first mission during the game and is available at any time, you can continue to survive and play with your fellow dead comrades until the objective of this mission is completed. Men of War: Condemned Heroes tells a very personal story of a soldier who died during an anti-partisan operation in the city of Lvov, Poland in Summer 1944. The player will be leading his squad through a deserted city, where they will need to survive and achieve their objective. The squad will use weapons such as submachine guns or rifles, but they will also use explosives such as grenades or Molotov cocktails. Additionally they can use melee weapons such as knives or crowbars for close combat situations. The squad will have to deal with German soldiers who patrol the city, and also face foreign resistance fighters fighting for their freedom against the German invasion. In December 1944, a convoy of prisoners from POW camps at Lvov and elsewhere in Poland is marching through the village of Skalat. The convoy is escorted by a squad of Grenadier Guardsmen from the Wehrmacht 1st Guards Infantry Division. Suddenly local rebels appear from hidden positions and open fire on the convoy. Unable to defend themselves effectively, a large number of soldiers are wounded or killed, while some 50 Polish prisoners escape into the forest. The German soldiers are ordered to hunt down the escaped prisoners, but are also instructed to avoid any damage to civilian property. Two weeks later, Feldwebel Karl Stolz has been given orders by his battalion commander Oberst Mueller to find and execute the escaped prisoners. Stolz turns for help to a local farmer named Kowalski, who is engaged in an ongoing feud with a rebellious family. Kowalski agrees to assist Stolz provided that he will first kill several members of his family. As Stolz begins his task, he finds out that it is not as easy as previously thought. Moreover, the order from Mueller does not mean what he first assumed... Sgt. Dima is a member of the Soviet 111th Rifle Division, who have been tasked with driving the advancing German forces from the outskirts of Stalingrad. In this mission, Dima will be spearheading a reconnaissance unit as they attempt to locate and capture an officer from the German forces. This task will be piece of cake for Dima and his troops – because there’s no way that it could go wrong, right? The story starts with a young military volunteer (Dima) and his company (the 111th Rifle Division), fighting to clear out German-occupied villages in Southern Russia, near the River Don.
